AS far as I am concerned, it is not a case who comes to Blackburn Rovers this summer but a case of who actually stays.

For while I would love to see fresh faces at Ewood Park it is just as important to stop our star players from walking out of the door.

That is why Rovers should try to do everything possible to keep hold of Andy Cole and Tugay.

Graeme Souness will only have limited funds to strengthen his squad and is unlikely to bring in more than two or three new players -- so it is vital the pair remain with the club.

Both would admit that they didn't have the greatest of seasons but it doesn't surprise me one bit that other sides are interested in signing them up.

But Rovers should do all they can to keep the likes of West Brom away from Cole and turn down any offers from Galatasaray for Tugay.

I hope Cole can sort out his differences with Souness because he is a proven goalscorer and his record speaks for itself. He has great movement in the box and gets his fair share of goals.

And every club needs a player like Tugay, who I think is one of the Premiership's play-makers on his day. He holds the ball up well and is a great passer.

If Cole was to go then that would leave us with an incredibly young and in-experienced front line of Jonathan Stead and Paul Gallagher.

Stead had a fantastic season and his goals certainly played a part in helping to keep Rovers up. But he is not the unknown quantity any more and will find it tougher next season. That is why it is important for him to play alongside the experienced Cole.

Gally is another who impressed last season but again lacks the experience to play week-in, week-out.

I know Rovers are interested in Paul Dickov and Morten Gamst Pedersen but for me Cole and Tugay are the men I want to see at Ewood Park.

WASN'T it refreshing to see Jon Stead cheering on his former Huddersfield Town team-mates from the bench at the Millennium Stadium on Monday.

For far to often you read about players who turn their back on their old clubs as soon as they hit the big time.

So it is a lovely attitude to have and I was delighted to see Jon get a big cheer from the Huddersfield fans during the play-off win against Mansfield because he played his part in getting them there.

He obviously enjoyed his time there and still has a lot of friends at the club.

He maybe young and in-experienced but a lot of players could learn from his approach to the game.
