PENDLE is getting in the mood for the Euro 2004 football tournament by holding its own tournament for soccer-mad youngsters from across the North West.

Pendle Youth Football Tournament will take place on Bullholme and Swindon playing fields, Barrowford, this weekend.

Football stars of the future, aged nine to 14, will be representing 60 teams from the across the region at the annual event, which is now in its 12th year.

The tournament is organised by Pendle Council's parks, cemeteries and outdoor recreation team in conjunction with Barrowford Celtic Football Club.

Kieron Roberts, principal development officer, said: "The tournament provides two full days of football fun.

"It's always well supported with the spectators having the opportunity to see young football talent which might one day make it to the England team."

He added that the tournament would not have been possible without they help of local firms and organisations including Broden Lloyd, Option Hygiene, Jon Naylor Financial Services, Farleys Solicitors, Pendle Unison, Carpets Direct and Shooters Clarets who have sponsored the event."
