I HAD to write and agree with E Kelly (LET, May 21) re the issues of illegally parked vehicles on Whalley Range and Plane Street.

I have on many occasions complained to the police about this problem but to no avail. The people that are causing the problem are mostly from out of the area and visiting the shops.

Every morning for example I am faced with one particular woman who parks on a double yellow line outside the paper shop causing an obstruction as other drivers like myself cannot see to the right.

Such drivers should get a fine or points on their licence but the police seem to concentrate on certain young individuals rather than look at all drivers in the same way. If an individual is breaking the law he or she should face the consequences regardless.

When I have called the police with my concerns they take details but never get back to tell me what they have done.

Inspector Laraway's comment that "the police have tried to educate people living in the area as regards parking" is not correct as while its some local people the majority are from out of the Whalley Range area. Takeaways, restaurants, businesses are being given permission to open but without the thought for the consequences for the residents. What is needed is a few car parks in the area.
