A HGV driver who went out to celebrate a potential new job landed himself a driving ban instead.
Burnley Magistrates heard Paul Peter Harrison, 58, was found more than twice the limit in the middle of the afternoon.
The defendant, of Colin Street, Burnley, admitted driving with excess alcohol and no insurance. He was fined £150, banned for 16 months and must pay £50 costs.
Tom Snape, prosecuting, told the court that at 3.15pm on Saturday a police patrol parked on Hargreaves Street, Burnley, saw a vehicle swerving across the road.
Mr Snape said Harrison was asked to provide a roadside breath test, was given two opportunities but did not gave an adequate sample to give a reading. The defendant was arrested and taken to the police station.
There he gave two tests, the lower of which showed 82 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.
Harrison said he was ashamed and embarrassed about what he did.
