A MAN aged 23 died after a road accident in Radcliffe on Saturday morning, shortly after a row with his girlfriend.
Victim Asif Hussain sustained serious head injuries when he was in collision with a blue Ford Ka while crossing Knowles Street at 10.50am. The car then hit a stationary Peugeot 306, which went into a Fiat.
The driver of the car was believed to be the sister of the victim's girlfriend.
Now the family of Mr Hussain and police officers have made a joint appeal for witnesses to the accident to come forward.
Mr Hussain, of Brentwood Court, Prestwich, was taken to Fairfield General Hospital, where he was treated for head injuries, including a fractured skull and multiple fractures to his body. He was transferred to Hope Hospital in Salford but died later the same day.
The 23-year-old driver and a 25-year-old female passenger, both from Radcliffe, escaped uninjured in the crash.
Police are also appealing for witnesses to an argument between Mr Hussain and his girlfriend at her house in Belgrave Street, Radcliffe, to come forward.
DS Lynne Vernon, of Bury CID said: "As well as needing independent witnesses to this accident, there was a domestic incident at the girlfriend's house beforehand and we would also want to talk to anyone who saw or heard anything."
Paying tribute to their son, Mr Hussain's family, who live in Bolton, said in a statement: "Asif loved life and always lived it to the full. He was a popular character with a very big heart, always there to help his family or friends with financial or emotional support. Asif, always joyful and outgoing, was dearly loved by all his family and friends. He will be missed by everyone. We would like to appeal for any witnesses who saw what happened to contact police and help justice prevail."
Both the driver and the passenger of the Ford Ka were arrested in connection with the accident, and released on police bail pending further inquiries. Anyone with information should ring 0161 856 8248.
