LOWTON people who are fed-up with mobile litter louts messing-up their village will be out on Saturday targeting the East Lancashire Road.
From 10am until noon Lane Head South Residents Group will clear the rubbish discarded from vehicles as they pass through Lane Head along the East Lancs Road which carries up to 40 000 vehicles a day - substantially more than envisaged when it opened in 1934.
Wigan Council is promising more litter picks than ever, but residents too are determined to play their part.
Fiona Whistlecroft, chairman of the Lane Head South Residents' Group says: "The sheer volume of litter generated by a minority of ignorant motorists is
unbelievable and does nothing for the image of Lowton and the borough in general.
"I know local people really care about their village and we'd like to see as many of them as possible turning out on Saturday."
The group meets at Lane Head Methodist Church at 10 am. Details from 01942 776162 or 776164.
