GREENMOUNT may have surrendered first place in the Bolton League table at the weekend but there was still plenty to celebrate.

The village side got the better of Horwich in a drawn game on Saturday then served notice that they are in no mood to give up the Hamer Cup they won last year after a convincing win over Bradshaw a day later.

At Horwich they again proved just what a potent batting force they are by racking up 234 for 3 from their 50 overs.

Things didn't look too bright when they lost Nigel Franklin, Ryan Senior and professional Nishit Shetty before the scoreboard clocked 70 but any ideas of victory from the home side were firmly despatched by opener Andy Bowker and skipper Mark Fallon.

Bowker finished 76 not out with his captain unbeaten on 105 in a crucial fourth wicket partnership of 165.

Fallon was simply in awesome form blasting 14 4s and seven 6s in his epic stay at the crease.

That target was always going to be too much for Horwich who were never in a position to seriously go for the win.

Mark Stewart was the pick of the Greenmount bowlers with a fine 5 for 39 from his 20 overs.

On Sunday at Bradshaw it was professional Shetty who led the way with the bat cracking a masterly 97.

All Shetty's amateur colleagues chipped in with useful knocks to boost the total with Bowker (33), Ryan Senior (32) and Stewart (29) the pick.

A colossal 256 total seemed to have a demoralising effect on the Bolton side who were never in the hunt.

Stuart Leach dismissed both dangermen Neil Johnson and David Morris in his first over before despatching Bradshaw professional Brett Newman in his second.

His partner-in-crime Stewart again ended with a nap hand to take his total of victims for the weekend to ten as the Bolton side's innings fizzled out to a miserable 69.

Greenmount's hopes of reinstatement into the Lancashire Knockout competition have been quashed after the county Cricket Board ruled that opponents Huyton were entitled to play New Zealander Kevin Murphy as he was an 'expatriate'.
