FIRST-year students on the HND in Public Services at the East Lancashire Institute of Higher Education at Blackburn College have completed a survey for Blackburn with Darwen Council on voting habits within the borough.

The aim of the survey was to gain feedback on what the public thought of postal voting and the council's recent election letter and also looked into public awareness of the forthcoming local and European elections on June 10.

The students completed the survey in March at the request of the council and the findings will be sent to officers for further analysis.

Student Mohammed Kamran said: "The survey was a good experience and all of the students had gained a lot more knowledge of elections and local government initiatives to improve voting turnout."
