COLIN OLIVE, from Tottington, had returned from a stay in Iceland, when he was transferred to the 53 Welsh Division, 531 Coy, RASC.
We landed in Normandy in 3ft of water. I was with a Lance Corporal Driver with a load of tank ammo. Sad to say he was killed a week later.
My most vivid memory was of being on ammo point, between the front line and HQ. We were behind the 2nd Monmouths. The day was fine, no wind, and as they moved in attack, they started to sing 'Land of My Fathers'. You could hear it loud and clear.
