THE President of Bury Lions has spoken of how the club changed his life since he suffered horrific injuries in a road accident.
Mr Ezzy Marcus made his moving speech at the 37th annual charter dinner of Bury Lions at the Bolholt Country Park Hotel in Walshaw attended by 150 guests.
Mr Marcus told the audience of the vital role the Lions had played in his life since he was involved in the accident 14 years ago.
He broke almost every bone in his body, had to endure 20 operations and was confined to a wheelchair for nearly four years.
He said: "After my accident, I felt life wasn't worth living. But the Lions changed my life and made things worth living for again. Now, I feel I'm putting something back into society.
"Anyone who isn't in the Lions doesn't know what they are missing. Joining was the best thing I'd ever done. It completely changed me for the best."
Guests included the Mayor and Mayoress of Bury, Councillor Wilf Davison and Mrs Maureen Davison, and Lions district governor Mrs Sylvia Fosberry.
