PAUL Dickov - another great bargain for Blackburn Rovers.
I can't see him necessarily being a regular but what he will do is help the young lads and make a nuisance of himself for opposing defenders.
He reminds me of another Scot I played alongside when I was at Ewood Park, David Speedie.
Speedie was a much better player and scored more goals than Dickov but he did a similar job and had the type of experience that Dickov can bring.
He's a busy little player, the type you want in the team to upset people and if he was a couple of feet taller he would be the old-fashioned type of centre forward.
But he works hard and does a job and you can get he will put a lot of pressure on the opposition.
And what can you get for £150,000 these days? Hardly anything, so Dickov is a good signing in that respect too.
The main quality you need is Premiership experience because the most important thing now is to stay in this league, so it's better then getting foreign players in who take time to adapt.
In fact, youngsters from Division Two or Division Three like Jonathan Stead are better value now, not only because of the money, but because they can adapt to the Premiership much better.
Landing Dickov also means that, if the writing wasn't on the wall for Dwight Yorke already, it certainly is now.
As a footballer you want to be playing football and I hope that Yorke isn't someone who is happy to just pick up his money without playing week in week out.
It's not good being at a club when the manager doesn't want you as you just end up training with the kids and it can cause unrest in the club.
Besides, Rovers are pretty much covered for strikers because they still have Matt Jansen.
People forget that it's only two years ago he was knocking on the England door but since recovering from his crash he hasn't really made the impact people expect him to.
But he can be like a new summer signing himself if he manages to make a full recovery and come back sharper next season. I know we were saying the same thing last year but if can get back to where he was he'll save the manager millions of pounds.
But it's also worth Blackburn having a look at Chelsea and Liverpool, two clubs with new managers who will be looking to get rid of players.
Given the amount that Jose Mourinho will have to ship out of Chelsea, I thought Eidur Gudjohnsen would have been a good signing for Rovers, a quality, proven Premierhsip player.
But as they're set to get Dickov at a cut-price, they have enough forwards to retain the size of squad you need to survive in the Premiership.
It's a good bit of business to kick off next season.
