ROYAL Mail managers have promised Burnley MP Peter Pike that problems with postal deliveries in he town have been solved.

But he still remained unhappy at the scale of disruption last month and proposals to close seven post offices in his constituency.

The Labour backbencher met with local Royal Mail bosses to discuss the recent problems with deliveries.

The difficulties have also involved Blackburn sorting office. Employees claim new working arrangements, following the decision to axe the second post earlier this year, are to blame.

Some residents have had to wait weeks for mail to be delivered, initially prompting fears that postal voting forms for the June 10 local and European elections would not arrive in homes on time.

Mr Pike said that at that meeting the local managers accepted that the recent situation, specifically during April, had been unacceptable. But they went on to assure him that the system is now fully working and that 100 per cent of first class mail posted within Burnley and to another Burnley address was being delivered the next working day.

Today Mr Pike said: "Everyone knows there were serious problems with the post during April, and I believe well into May, but the managers assure me these problems have now been addressed and post is being delivered on time."
