HAPPY memories were shared at a party to bid the Neonatal Unit at Sharoe Green hospital a fond, but emotional farewell.
More than 70 babies, children and teenagers who fought for their lives after being born prematurely since 1986, the year the unit opened, descended on Charters Restaurant, at Royal Preston Hospital.
They collected commemorative medals to mark the end of the unit at Sharoe Green which is moving to Royal Preston in the summer as part of a £40million package to relocate services.
The guests were treated to a feast and then fun from entertainers, and there was a chance to meet past and present staff, some who have worked on the unit for nearly 20 years.
Christine Ingram, modern matron on the unit, said: "All the staff and families have many happy memories.
"This party gave us all the opportunity to join together and celebrate the life of the unit and look forward to the future."
