I WRITE in response to letters regarding the traffic lights at Scale Hall Corner.
The signals were introduced by the county council as part of a traffic calming scheme, the aims of which included reducing the volume and speed of traffic on residential roads.
It was completed in November 2002 and has proved successful, though complaints have come from some motorists that the signals create a delay and should be removed.
I do not accept that the signals have added to overall delays and believe removing them is not an option because it would reintroduce road safety hazards that have been successfully addressed.
I appreciate the concern regarding the effect of congestion on the daily journey by motorists, but this has to be balanced against the need of all road users to travel easily and safely.
The solution lies in working together to break the dependency on single occupancy car journeys so that all traffic can contribute fully to meeting the transport needs of the district
Cllr Janice Hanson, Lancashire County Council.
