ALMOST 40 teams from 25 schools took part in Lancaster City Council's annual rural primary schools' five-a-side foot-ball competition at Salt Ayre.
With more than 300 competitors and spectators descending onto Salt Ayre's pitch, teams were split into small and big school competitions, with Nether Kellet, Abbeystead, Melling, Hornby, Wray, Silverdale, Leck and Arkholme winning through to the last eight of the small schools.
The final saw Hornby take on Arkholme in a tight contest which Hornby eventually won by 3-1.
The top eight in the big schools competition were; Mossgate, Warton, St.Peters, Ellel, Bolton-le-Sands, St.Peters, Trumacar and Ellel B, with Bolton-le-Sands and Warton - who had already met in the groups - going to the final.
After 10 minutes play plus 'golden goal' extra time the score was still 0-0 and the teams went into a penalty shoot-out which Warton eventually won 8-7.
Every competitor in both competitions received a medal and certificate for their afternoon's efforts.
