DERELICT houses in two Burnley streets are to be bulldozed after councillors gave the green light for their demolition.
The council's executive approved for the compulsory purchase and clearance of the six houses within the Home Zone Regeneration area when they met this week.
Under the scheme, costing £204,972, the houses - four in Westmorland Street and two in Nairne Street - will make way for landscaping and residential parking.
It follows consultation with residents last year who highlighted the need to improve the appearance of the area and a shortage of parking as a problem.
Michael Wellcock, Burnley Council's Elevate Project co-ordinator said the project would be funded by Home Zone and Elevate funding and would be the first Home Zone project.
He said: "We hope to make a major contribution to the regeneration of South West Burnley. If successful, similar projects could be rolled out to other parts of the borough."
