BISPHAM'S Rock Gardens could be getting a face-lift the council has told neighbours of the Devonshire Road site.
Greenlands ward councillor Kath Benson and Phil Morton of the council's parks department met with residents' group, The Friends of the Rock Gardens, to discuss the possible revamp, including a new woodland walk, new benches and gates and 'a tidy up' of run-down facilities.
Friends spokeswoman, Emma Burgess, said: "The park is intimidating, and not a place to visit alone at night.
"But we want to create a more open atmosphere, and with a joint effort we can regain this important area of natural beauty for the community.
"On a recent investigative tour of the gardens, members saw foxes and a wide range of birds, and those local people who do use the gardens are keen that improvements are made to this undervalued amenity."
Trees are already being thinned on Devonshire Road using money from Bispham Area Forum ring-fenced for environmental and community safety initiatives.
Other improvements could include draining and cleaning the Rock Gardens pond and repairing broken fencing, the meeting heard.
Anyone interested in helping with the planned revamp, including fund-raising, can call Ms Burgess on 591139.
