IT is true that in the European Elections you can only vote for a party not an individual (LET, May 27).
However if you vote for a smaller party you are effectively voting for the person at the top of their list.
Lead Green Party candidate John Whitelegg came within two per cent of winning in the last European Elections, and two Green MEPS were elected in other regions.
The threshold for election could be as low as eight per cent, so either the Greens or one of the far right parties are likely to end up with an MEP.
This adds a new dimension to the election and makes it all the more important to vote.
