A MAN was found dead in his Burnley house after taking an overdose of painkillers, an inquest heard.
Wayne McKillop had not been seen for eight days after he attended hospital for treatment to a head wound sustained in an incident in a town centre bar.
The 36-year-old was in a distressed state in the bar on August 14 last year and left his mobile phone and tobacco behind.
Four days later he returned to the pub, Sams Bar in Keirby Walk, to collect his belongings.
Barman Aaron Hanson told the court Mr McKillop was behaving oddly and was abusive to customers.
He was escorted from the bar but later returned, when it is thought he hit his head on a bannister and was taken to hospital.
On August 26, his family contacted the police after been concerned at him not contacting them.
The police forced the door of his Accrington Road house and found Mr McKillop dead, surrounded by packets of pills.
Home Office pathologist, Dr John Rutherford, yesterday told the inquest he had died from an overdose of dextropropoxyphene, a substance found in the painkillers.
Recording a verdict of accidental death, coroner Richard Taylor said: "When I look at cases like this when there is an overdose of drugs I think was the overdose deliberate?
"There is no evidence in this case it was."
