A RETIRED woman and her daughter were taken to hospital this morning after fleeing their burning home.
Norma and Beth Dower escaped the blaze which starting at about 4.50am in an upstairs room at the front of the house in Talbot Street, Colne.
Anne-Marie Jackson, who lives next door to the mother and daughter, phoned the fire brigade after being awoken by her neighbours.
She said: "I could hear Norma shouting there was a fire and that they had to get out, so I rang the fire brigade as it was the natural thing to do.
"The fire was fierce and there was smoke and flames coming out of the window. They managed to get out but were taken to hospital."
Today the pair were in a stable condition in Burnley General Hospital after suffering smoke inhalation.
