THOUSANDS of people flocked to Radcliffe and Bury over the weekend to enjoy two carnivals.

People were not put off by the overcast weather conditions on Saturday as they cheered on the array of floats parading through Radcliffe's streets.

And on Sunday Bury's Carnival made a welcome return after a one year absence -- and took place in the best weather seen this year.

This year's Queen of the Carnival at Radcliffe, Sarah Elizabeth Wiles, rode on top of a float as the procession travelled through the town. The Mayor of Bury, Councillor Wilf Davison, looked on as it set off from the fields at Unsworth Street and then travelled along along Lowe Street, Ainsworth Road, Water Street, Blackburn Street, Pilkington Way, Stand Lane, Church Street, Rectory Lane, Spring Lane, Water Street and back to Unsworth Road.

Bury Carnival was just as well received as crowds gathered in the town centre.

The event was staged at the Mosses car park, Cecil Street, and attractions included a daredevil mountain bike display .

The Rochdale Borough Youth Wind Band and Lancashire Fusiliers Fife & Drums Band added to the atmosphere and excitement for thousands of people.
