THE celebrations of the Ribble Valley Railway re-opening (LET, May 24) brought these memories of the line during its closure.
Clitheroe Station had parcels and goods traffic and still sold tickets -- Longridge Station also sold tickets.
For the July holiday weeks the stationmaster had tried to get special trains but BR said no.
On summer Saturdays a service ran via Blackburn to Glasgow and called at Hellifield but made no return journey.
Just once Whalley Station was used for a school special to an event at Whalley Abbey.
Finally, many people will remember a cheap evening trip from Blackburn to Morecambe which filled two diesel trains.
