DAVID McNiven will stay at Leigh RMI if the club can offer him the right contract.

The prolific goalscorer, who scored 26 times last season and was a rare bright spot on the Railwaymen's otherwise miserable year, has been linked with moves to Conference rivals Carlisle and Stevenage.

But 25-year-old McNiven has said he would be happy to stay at Hilton Park.

Leigh's ability to attract the former York City and Oldham frontman into an extension to his current deal shows the club's ambition, according to chairman William Taylor.

"We have genuine aspirations to become a Football League side", said Taylor. "We have great potential and we have shown that we want to progress because we want to move to a stadium that will hold 10,000 people and be good enough for the Third Division", he added.

But Taylor also revealed that the club are still looking for a new sponsor ahead of the new season, which starts in eight weeks time.

"It's a great investment opportunity", claims Taylor. "The Conference has national exposure through Sky Sports and because the Conference League Cup is starting up again, sponsors will get more games for their money."
