VISITORS to Prestwich Conservative Club had a ball at a charity bowling event last Saturday.

The annual charity day was organised by the Prestwich Ladies Bowling League.

Players and visitors enjoyed a number of highlights, including entertainment by the band from Air Cadets 1036 (Bury Squadron), whose marching tunes prompted the lady bowlers to do a little marching dance on the green.

The event, at the club in Church Lane, Prestwich, also featured a number of stalls and raffles -- and when sales on the bric-a-brac stall suffered a slump, one of the committee members decided to sell them off Del-Boy style.

"They went in no time, after I turned into Del Boy from Only Fools and Horses," said fixtures secretary Maureen Yardley, who admitted she was a "bit of a show off".

The event raised £960 on the day for the Air Cadets and the Shona Mae White Fund, which supports research into brain tumours in children.

However, the amount is likely to double by September after all the other local clubs have contributed their donations from competition days.

Mrs Yardley added: "It was a brilliant day and the sun shone all day. We would like to thank everyone who donated gifts for the stalls and the committee members who worked hard all day to make sure the event ran smoothly."
