BOTTOM of the table Leyland hosted league leaders Netherfield on Saturday and the visitors' top spot was never in jeopardy as they effortlessly beat the home side by a massive 147 runs.

Leyland had an early success when Kelly caught and bowled opener Walmsley for 2, but after that it was runs, runs, and more runs from the Cumbrians.

Gareth Whites scored an unbeaten 159 and it was a pleasure to watch, even to the long suffering home fans, as he produced every shot in the book to tear Leyland's attack apart. Netherfield declared on 275 for the loss of just two wickets. It only took 30 overs for the leaders to gain their victory.

Leyland Motors visited at Lune Road Lancaster, and came away with a draw thanks to a battling last wicket partnership between Phil Iddon and Sefton Prince.

Lancaster made 153 off their allotted overs, David Heywood scoring 47 not out.

In the Motors innings Graham Barnes took an impressive 7 for 39 off 25.

The Motors captain David Makinson had a sound game returning 3 for 24 off 19 overs and then contributing 26 runs before he became one of Barnes's victims caught and bowled.

Although it probably would not have changed the result, Leyland pro Moin-ul-Atiq was moving along nicely before he was surprised by a brilliant return hit when he was looking for a comfortable second run.

Wicketkeeper Charlie Williams scored a defiant 40.

Preston had no game last week but return to action on Saturday when they host Lancaster.

Leyland visit Kendal while Motors travel to Barrow.
