A BANNED motorist who drove 30 yards to move a car put his freedom at risk, magistrates heard.

Stephen Thomas Jonathan, 28, who is due to start a £28,000-a-year job with Hyndburn Council next week, was spared jail.

The defendant, of Piccadilly Street, Haslingden, admitted driving while disqualified and no insurance. He was given a six-month curfew order, between 8pm and 7am, every night except Friday. He must also pay £50 costs.

Burnley magistrates were told Jonathan had a similar previous conviction and was banned until September next year.

Bill Rawstron, defending, said Jonathan's new job would help him rebuild his life.
