YOU were kind enough to publish my letter about electoral apathy in the Citizen two weeks ago.

The vote in the Euro-elections and its aftermath has given a whole new dimension to the subject.

Despite the startling electoral support for UKIP, affirmed by the ballot result the political establishment - Labour, Conservative and Liberal-Democrat - have come together in an unholy alliance to say they will pay no attention.

The people have, in this case, spoken clearly but the three main parties are determined that this view will not be heard in Parliament because it does not accord with their idea of what the citizens are allowed to think and advocate.
