THE daughter of a man left with a fractured skull after a suspected road rage attack has urged people to help find his vicious attacker.

England fan Tommy Hall was beaten from behind after a near-collision with a car as he walked home from St Mary's Football Club, in South Shore Street, Haslingden.

The 57-year-old was briefly knocked unconscious in Charles Lane by a blow to the back of his head and then battered, suffering a broken arm, cheek bone and shoulder. His wallet and keys stolen were also stolen.

He is now in Fairfield General Hospital, in Bury, where his condition is said to be stable, but will be moved to Manchester's Hope Hospital over concerns of a blood clot on his brain.

Mr Hall, of Pentland House, Haslingden, had been watching England's Euro 2004 quarter final match against Portugal on Thursday just before the attack.

His daughter Becky Dunne, 22, of Chapel Street, Haslingden, said: "It was a vicious attack that has left him with horrific injuries. My dad wouldn't hurt a fly - he would give you his last penny, he's that kind of bloke. He wouldn't go looking for trouble, it is not in his nature to fight."

The mother-of-one went on: "I would urge anyone who saw anything to come forward and talk to the police so that they can find the person who did this."

Mr Hall, who also has a ten-year-old stepson, Bradley Spencer, left the club at around midnight and was walking along Charles Lane when a car looked like it would hit him.

The car stopped within a few feet of him and police said the driver glared, then drove off. Shortly after he was attacked.

Mr Hall, a retired weaver, managed to make his way back to the football club, although he does not remember how, and staff called 999.

Detective Inspector Stuart Barlow added: "There will have been a lot of people around that night. We are appealing for information."
