ACCRINGTON Stanley stopper Jon Kennedy has thrown down an ultimatum as talks over a new contract rumble on.

Kennedy has rejected one offer of a full time contract with the Reds because he feels it does not fully compensate him for relocating and giving up his job as a warehouse worker.

And the player, who ended a successful first season at Stanley with a third cap for the England National side, is now ready to take up the offer of two trials with Football League clubs unless Stanley boss John Coleman contacts him with a new offer.

Kennedy said: "I haven't spoken to anyone from the club since the season finished. They keep saying they are talking to me, but the only offer I've had is the one they put to me then, which they know I just can't accept.

"If I did, I would need to move nearer to Accrington because I cannot travel from Rotherham every day.

"It would also mean giving up my job and making a big sacrifice, which I am happy to do if the deal is right.

"Now I'm beginning to think they are trying some delaying tactic and dangling me on a string just in case they cannot sign anyone else.

"If they want me to sign, then they need to pick up the phone and tell me so because two Second Division clubs have been in contact. I know I would have to go on trial there, but that is a risk I'm willing to take."

Stanley boss John Coleman has made no secret of the fact he wants to strengthen his goalkeeping options by signing Australian international keeper Jason Petkovic.

The Reds have formally applied for a work permit for the former Perth Glory ace, who has admitted he is desperate for a chance to break into the English game.

But Coleman insists he still wants Kennedy on board as Stanley gear up to turn fully professional for the first time in 42 years in a bid to bring league football back to the town.

Coleman said: "I still have to speak to Jon, but I will be contacting him in the next few days and hopefully we can sort something out."
