PUPILS from a Bury school went to the riverbank with the help of a local bank to raise cash for their charity work in Kenya.

The Children of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, based at Bury Church of England High School, took part in a sponsored canoe paddle to try and raise £1,500 to boost school funds and support their ongoing charity work for education and conservation in Kenya.

Joining the youngsters at Burrs Country Park was Barclays Bank manager Andrew Sutherland. Bank staff had pledged to match the pupils' total pound for pound to a maximum of £750.

Teacher Jackie Vet, the event co-ordinator, said: "Knowing that the staff at Barclays Bank will generously match pound for pound the money raised, has really boosted people's willingness to support the event."
