ORGANISERS of the Carnival in the Park say this year's event should be bigger and better than ever.

Last year more than 3,000 people packed into Victoria Park in Nelson - and this year organisers hope to see an even bigger crowd.

Russell Tennant, one of the festival organisers, from Pendle Leisure Trust, said: "The carnival is made possible by different organisations in Pendle working together.

"Events are a great way of bringing people of different backgrounds and ages together, we are aiming to create a fun event for all the family."

Lucy Bergman, of Mid Pennine Arts, another key organiser said: "It's a wonderful opportunity for the people of Pendle and beyond to come together and celebrate all the diverse culture, entertainment and creativity that Pendle has to offer."

The carnival will offer quality workshops with professional artists for all the family as well as musical performances, circus skills, food and stalls.

Main organisers of the Pendle Carnival in the Park are Mid Pennine Arts, Pendle Leisure Trust and Pendle Community Network, all of whom are also working together on organising the larger scale Pendle Festival for next year.

The carnival will be held from noon-7pm on Sunday, August 1.
