A NURSE is to face trial for the manslaughter of a Blackburn toddler who died after he was given an injection of the wrong drug.
Paediatric nurse Rose Aru made her first appearance before Liverpool magistrates yesterday charged with killing 18-month-old Jake McGeough.
Jake, of Leicester Road, was admitted to Liverpool Alder Hey Children's Hospital in 2001 with a suspected chest infection.
He died on July 8 and an inquest into his death heard that he had been given a muscle relaxant instead of a mild sedative.
Following an inquest jury's unlawful killing verdict, police and Crown prosecutors re-opened their file on the case and Nurse Aru was arrested last week.
Nurse Aru was granted bail and magistrates committed her for trial at Liverpool Crown Court.
A date for a hearing at which she will enter a plea to the manslaughter charge was fixed for July 28.
