BLACKBURN petrol service stations are selling the cheapest unleaded in East Lancashire, according to motoring organisation the AA.

Its Petrolbusters chart places Blackburn at number 46 in the national 200 cheapest petrol towns, with the average litre costing 80.15p a litre, down from 81.4p a litre last week.

But the local supermarkets are leading the way in reducing the price of petrol even further, with both Asda and Tesco in the town selling for 78.9p a litre.

In Accrington, which was selling the country's fourth cheapest petrol last week, prices have continued to fall, but not as fast as elsewhere.

The average litre now costs 80.4p, down from 80.73p. That has seen the town fall from fourth to 113th - mainly due to the fact that petrol stations in other towns have slashed prices further.

In Accrington, BP in Hyndburn road, Esso in Manchester Road, Total in Church and Shell at Rising Bridge are all selling petrol for 79.9p according to the AA.

Burnley ranks 109th this week, down from 61 last week. The average price of a litre there is 80.71p, but Tesco in the town centre is selling petrol for 78.9p a litre, as is Kitchens Total station, along with Esso stations throughout the town and Asda in Rawtenstall and Colne.
