ORGANISERS of Helmshore gala are making a break from tradition to turn this weekend's event into a non-religious occasion.
The parish of St Thomas, Flaxmoss, decided to change the format by inviting locally-based organisations to take part.
The Rev Norman Price suggested the carnival - on Saturday and Sunday - should be open to the greater community in a non-religious celebration to raise money for good causes.
The carnival procession is to set off from Haslingden Sports Centre, Helmshore Road, headed by Helmshore Brass Band, on Saturday from 2pm.
Following on will be local groups walking in fancy dress before returning to Helmshore Primary School's playing field.
Anyone wishing to be involved should contact Sue Hicks on 01706 213487.
