IS it any wonder that the government withheld the figures on road casualties until after the local elections when they show that despite the huge increase in speed cameras there has been an increase in deaths countryside of two per cent.

This fact is astonishing enough but when they also have to admit that in areas with saturation speed cameras this increases to 46 per cent, there can only be one conclusion on the effectiveness of cameras.

Speed cameras are a one trick pony and while they are the main (or only) tool of road safety then we will not see the improvements.
