WITH reference to your front page story on Saturday, June 25, headlined "Tory gives Barbara the boot" - regardless of party politics, there is no getting away from the fact that Barbara Castle was a unique campaigner, not only for Blackburn but also to further the cause of equal rights for all.
Women voters, again irrespective of their politics, will feel insulted and appalled after reading this article.
The decision of a lasting memorial should and will be discussed by members of the council and an agreement will be reached.
This article serves as a distraction from the alarming result of the 2004 local election - an obvious wake up call for everyone.
The disgraceful comments made by ex-councillor Eddie Harrison should be treated with the contempt they deserve and not allied to the Conservative party.
