CALLS flooded an emergency switchboard after a mains burst left parts of Blackburn without water.

A torrent of water burst through the road surface in Morecambe Road, creating a river which flowed down the road and filled up the drains.

AN accumulation of gas in a five foot square oven at Bankfield Foundry, Canning Street, Burnley caused an explosion affecting three men.

The oven doors were open, limiting the affect of the blast but the workmen had to receive hospital treatment for concussion and shock.

The men were released from hospital the following day.
