WHAT started off as a class project could see a school band on the road to fame.

Tin Fish hope to hit the big time after producing their own CD single and performing at their end-of-school concert.

The group members -- Shaun Hobbs, Manuel Richardson, Craig Thornton and Lee Owen -- have been together for about three years but the friends decided to take part in a Young Enterprise scheme at Coney Green Technology College and market their songs and CD.

The scheme started last September, and representatives from the Inland Revenue were asked to visit the Radcliffe school to offer support to help the team's business along. Unfortunately, the project failed to get off the ground.

Dave Tarver, associate headteacher, said: "It was a shame because the scheme didn't happen in the end. But when we listened to what they had actually put together, we realised it was an opportunity we should not waste."

The Spring Lane school's Parents' School Association funded the CD, The Tin Fish EP, so that the group could still record their own songs, Pleaser and Doves.

All the money raised will go towards new computer software that will give disabled students at the school access to music facilities.
