STAR striker Paul Mullin says his first day as a professional footballer will live long in his memory.

The Accrington Stanley centre forward met up with his team-mates this week to officially mark the club's return to full-time status, after a 42-year wait.

Mullin, who has given up his nine-to-five job as a financial advisor - although hasn't abandoned his career altogether, said: "To be a professional footballer at 30 is something that I wasn't expecting to happen.

"It felt strange putting my training kit on and not a suit on Thursday morning but it was great to be a part of it and see all the lads again."

He added: "My first day as a professional footballer is something I'll always remember.

"But it's difficult to enjoy pre-season training because it's hard work. Hopefully we'll see the benefits of going full-time next season though.

"It certainly beats working in an office or going out on appointments.

"The set-up at the training ground is really good.

"It will take a little while to get used to things but it already has a really professional feel about it."
