THIRTY passengers were evacuated from a coach after it caught fire in Bocholt Way, Rawtenstall.
The Volvo 52-seater coach was returning to Bacup after a group had been on a trip to Manchester.
The driver smelled smoke while travelling along Bacup Road.
Firefighters said a fault in the braking system had caused the front tyres to set on fire.
The passengers were evacuated in Bacup Road while firefighters tackled the blaze.
Sub Officer Tom Simpson said: "Nobody was injured because the driver noticed the smell of smoke and acted immediately by getting everybody off the bus and to safety. He called us out and arranged for transport to take the passengers home."
