A MAN making his way home from a nightclub was attacked outside his own home, a court was told.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Daniel Wright was knocked to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked.

The court was told the incident was a "revenge" attack following a confrontation earlier in the night.

Christopher Gary Robinson, 23, of Pritchard Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Wright. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £150 compensation and £50 costs.

Tom Snape, prosecuting, said Mr Wright had been in the toilets at Never Never Land, Blackburn, when he was confronted by a man called Bobby Beck, the boyfriend of Robinson. Words were exchanged and Mr Wright felt a blow to his head, said Mr Snape. As he was walking home he received a threatening message on his mobile and phone calls from Bobby Beck.

"As he approached his home in Freckleton Street he became aware of a taxi pulling up outside his front door," said Mr Snape. Beck's mother, Donna, got out of the taxi and started throwing punches, and she was joined by Robinson, the court heard.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said there was a history to the incident going back to when Bobby Beck was 14. Mrs Beck had spoken to Mr Wright and told him to leave her son alone.

"At that time Mr Wright was 30 years old and Mrs Beck felt her son needed to be left alone to find out about himself," said Mr Taylor.

"Bobby is now in a relationship with my client and Mr Wright can't accept this. He has constantly pestered Bobby and Mr Robinson over a period of time."

He said Bobby told a different story of what went on in the club.

"With hindsight my client accepts his behaviour was inappropriate," said Mr Taylor.
