CHORLEY Lynx cemented their place in the play-off positions with a 32-18 victory over a London Skolars outfit at Victory Park.

Lynx only made the game safe 11 minutes from time with a fine interception try from Jamie Stenhouse, but they made the early running and were rewarded with a try from Mick Redford in the fourth minute.

Lynx increased their lead with a penalty from Brian Capewell but two minutes later it was their turn to fall foul of the referee as the Skolars opened their account with a penalty from Kurt Pittman.

Skolars renewed confidence produced a well-worked try when Austen Aggrey sent in Mark Cantoni.

Lynx regained the lead in the 31st minute with a try from Chris Newall after an intended grubber kick from Martin Gambles had hit a Skolars player and dropped into his arms. Jake Johnson added the conversion.

The Skolars had the last word of the first half when Joel Osborn slotted over a penalty in the 36th minute to leave Lynx with a 12-8 half-time advantage.

However, from a drop out just minutes into the second half Osborn was on the end of a flowing move to bring the scores level.

Lynx appeared to have gained the advantage with two tries in five minutes from Redford and Andy Grundy, both converted by Capewell to give them a 12 point advantage.

The Skolars refused to lie down and they reduced the arrears in the 61st minute with a try from Robert Jonker, converted by Osborn to leave them just six points adrift.

Lynx sealed the game in the 69th minute with a fine interception try from Stenhouse, who went the full length of the field, Capewell added the conversion to restore Lynx's 12 point lead.

Skolars were down to 12 men in the 74th minute as Alex Smits was put in the sin-bin and from the resulting penalty Capewell made the game safe for Lynx.

The only remaining action of note was the sin-binning of Lynx's Brian Capewell in the 79th minute as Lynx finished up as worthy winners.
