COMPETITION from a Burnley bar complex is contributing to a slump for Accrington's night-time economy, where the numbers of weekend revellers down by up to 50 per cent.

Now council leaders in the Hyndburn town have set up a group to look at ways of reversing the decline after licensees told how even the famous Sunday night out has seen a reduction in trade.

Tony Dobson, a councillor and manager of the Arcade Bar, Warner Street, told a meeting of the Town Centre Regeneration Board that bars were in danger of going out of business.
