Building work update ( Monday 5th Jul 2004 )

Sports Bar extension and covered terrace

Work is progressing well on the Sports Bar extension, all foundations are in place and the south wall is now complete. The next big step nowbeing the installation of the main beam from a specialist company in the Midlands, which is due to arrive this week.

The covering over the terrace has proved to be a little more troublesome. The initial design had fourteen roof supports behind the supporting wall of the terrace, however as each of these required deep foundations there were concerns that this may lead to disrupting the existing terracing, and so a revised design similar to the current main stand was drawn up. This new design had just three supports behind the wall, but unfortunately this required much more steelwork and almost doubled the price of the project. Following a series of meetings last week we are now looking to go back to the original design, but using piling instead of open foundations, which will cause much less disturbance to the existing construction. A quote for this work is expected this week, we would like to assure supporters that this is still our number one priority with regards to ground development and we are looking to start work as soon as possible.
