MAY I correct the impression that I am leading calls for CCTV cameras to be installed in classrooms in order to reduce the danger of false allegations of child abuse against teachers (LET, July 14).
I can think of some specific cases where, in hindsight, the existence of CCTV cameras in the classroom may have helped expose a false allegation, providied the camera was switched on, the alleged incident or alleged scene of 'crime' was clearly visible and the interpretation beyond doubt.
However, I feel that the disadvantages of such a scheme, for both pupils and teachers, far outweigh any possible advantage.
There are more important issues which concern FACT. We are a campaign and support group for falsely accused carers and teachers. Above all, we believe in the indivisibility of justice for those who have suffered child abuse and those who are falsely accused of child abuse.
