A DAY out at the seaside helped bridge the generation gap for a group of Burnley residents yesterday.
Young people from the Burnley Lane Residents Group, their families and elderly residents from the Queensgate area came together for a trip to Lytham St Annes.
It was organised by police in the town to foster more trust between the generations.
Police community support officer, Nigel Keates, said the day started with a quiz on historical and modern day subjects.
He said: "We have had a quiz on the bus, which was designed so the people would have to mix to find out the answers. It was a good ice-breaker."
After arriving at the resort, the generations built sand castles and went on a boating trip, with the day culminating in the 40-strong group going for afternoon tea.
PCSO Keates added: "It has gone well and everybody had a good time. The weather was absolutely fantastic.
"It was about trying to turn it into one giant community day out, which I believe it did."
Mavis Jones, 63, who lives in Waterbarn Street, said: "We have got to know each other more and I think we should have more of these trips."
James Matthewson, 11, lives in Gawthorpe Street said he enjoyed the activities. He added: "It was really fun and exciting. I think everybody else enjoyed it as well."
