president

CLITHEROE Golf Club president Derek Wood hosted a golf day for junior members and presented Zak Foley with the top prize for his return of 83-17-66.

Young Robert Ashworth shot a net 67 to take second place, Andrew Heesom took the net prize with a solid 79, while Stefano Coppola and William Kenyon won prizes for the best front and back nines.

Ted Speak and Malcolm Brown gelled well to produce 43 points in the fourball stableford as one point separated the winners from five pairs, all with 42 points.

After a card play-off Peter Greaves and John Gibson took second and pushed the in-form duo of Jack Simmons and Bill Birch into third.

The Ray Taylor-Jeff Crowther combination rued the missed short putt on the 18th to leave them out of the prizes. The Ian Black-Tom Brown team had what they described as a colourful round, but they too missed out on the cards.

Simon Swindells and Nick Reeves had a head to head in the single stableford, both with impressive 41 points, but Simon took top spot after a card play-off.

John Fryer made a welcome visit to the leaderboard in third place ahead of Alex Taylor, Antony McGibbon and Paul Wood, all one shot behind.
