THE First Division National Championship was held on the River Trent on Saturday with 62 teams participating.
The river fished patchily but produced a record National weight.
Steve Clark, fishing for A4 Oxford MG, hauled out 28 bream and eight barbel for a record-breaking catch (72.920kg) from peg J1, downstream from Cromwell Weir.
In second place, Jeff Perrin (Shakespeare Redditch), peg C10 on Hamms Bridge at Shelford, took eight break to 7-8-0 in a total catch of 20.210kg.
Third place fell to Ian Roe (Oakwood Eurobait), peg C13, with seven bream to 6lb and one chub, total weight 18.340kg.
Top teams: 1 Barnsley & District 591 points; 2 Middy Matchman 577pts; 3 Doncaster & District 539pts.
Sadly, the Bury team had their worst result in 35 years taking 61st place with 259 points with one blank.
Despite two exceptional results, Mick Evans, fishing peg E41 at the entrance to Fardon Marina, experienced trouble from boats entering and leving the Marina.
One yacht lost control and ran up the bank shattering his ledger rod in pieces and disturbing his productive swim.
Despite this he came third in his section with 5-05kg.
Also, Paul White, fishing peg K62 at Clifton, took sixth section place with 4-530kg for 58pts.
Dave Chadwick, fishing L14, scored 41pts and Steve Lomax, peg J22, scored 35pts.
On the local match scene, in Thursday evening's target match held on Island Lodge, Dave Waggler had top weight 10-1-0.
In second place was Roy Gough (9-10-0) and third, Daz Shaw (2-10-4).
In the Junior Trophy match held on Island Lodge on Wednesday, Boyden Krupnickji had top weight with 2-2-0.
Second was Sean Monk with 1-12-6 and third Danny Hamer 0-10-6.
On Sunday, Scapa Porrit AC held their match for the Riley Trophy on Parkers.
Top weight fell to Alan Waters (3-2-0). In second place was Geoff Palmer (3-0-0) and third, Les Whittles (1-11-0).
In the Monday Pilsworth Open held on Bottom Ponds the result was: 1 Jonathon Jowett (Drennan NW) 24-14-0; 2 Ron Buckley (Fishermans Way) 20-4-0; 3 Bernard Taylor (Fishermans Way) 19-14-0.

SEVEN members of the club sailed out of Port Dinorwick on Saturday to fish aboard Atlantis.
The party first drifted for bass, were unsuccessful but caught mackerel bait.
Travelling 36 miles out, fishing the 270 foot deep King George's Channel, they located a wreck and only two passes failed to catch fish.
Fishing jelly worms, reg gills, frozen sandeels and live mackerel they accounted for 40 pollock (only two under 5lb, biggest 15lb) and four ling, best 18lb.
Also, a porbeagle shark took an 8lb pollack on retrieve, taking a large lump out of the fish. The party had to use 1 leads to hold bottom.
The next club trip will be held on Saturday, July 31 to Hartlepool to fish aboard Aqua Star.
The next club meeting is on Sunday, August 1, 1.30pm at Royal Hotel, Bury Road, Tottington.

THIRD match of the six-match junior series, for the Hart Trophy, will be held on Island Lodge on Wednesday, July 28. Draw 5.30pm to 6pm. Fishing 6.30pm to 9pm.

JULY'S monthly meeting of the club will be held this Monday, 7.30pm at Elton Liberal Club.
The club's next match, the July Cup, will be held this Sunday (July 25) on the East Lancs Little Reservoir. Draw 9am, fishing 10am to 3pm.
The approach to the reservoir is via Ainsworth Road, Radcliffe. Names will be taken at Fishermans Way.
The Cookes Senior Cup will be held on Foulridge Reservoir, wallside, on Sunday, August 29.
Peg fee (£4.50) to be paid on entry at Fishermans Way. Members to have priority.
