HOLCOMBE Army camp is not to be "de-mobbed" under sweeping military cutbacks announced by the Government.
Yesterday, an Army spokesman gave a categorical assurance that the Holcombe training area and camp would remain open.
But it has been disclosed that the nature of the facilities is currently under review.
Speculation about the camp's future followed the announcement of a Government defence shake-up which could lead to up to 20,000 military jobs being lost across the services. Holcombe Army camp is Ministry of Defence property.
An Army spokesman said yesterday: "There is absolutely no question of the closure of the training area or camp.
"But consideration is being given to the nature of facilities at Holcombe and at similar facilities across the country. But it's too early to say what these changes could be."
