YOUNG musical maestros from a Bury high school have displayed their prowess during a week-long visit to Italy.

Musicians from Unsworth's Castlebrook High School took to the stage during a concert in the Lake Garda region which was watched by more than 200 people.

It was one of the major highlights of the pupils' one-week visit to Italy.

At the concert, the audience was treated to a wide selection of solo items, from Broadway songs to well-known classics such as the Mozart 4th Horn Concerto.

Some members of Castlebrook's school band played Jupiter from the Planet Suite by Holst as well as music from Les Miserables and Porgy and Bess.

The purpose of the Italian visit was to include all aspects of the creative and performing arts, but sports enthusiasts were also kept happy with an afternoon tour of the San Siro Stadium, home of AC Milan and Inter Milan.

Commenting on the concert, Castlebrook's head of music David Kemp said: "This was a perfect end to a very busy year musically.

"We will now be taking a short break before the new term starts and then start preparing for our musical which will be staged in November. This, once again, will be one of the more well-known musicals."
